LadyLady Starlight was a performer Gaga encountered during this time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007, an imprint of Interscope Records. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her internship with Famous Music Publishing. This company was later acquired and renamed Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The company then hired her to write songs for the benefit of Britney Spears and her label mates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album that Gaga released in 2008 "The Fame" was met with only minimal media coverage. Gaga went on tour throughout Europe and the US to promote her debut album. However, it was not until 2009's smash hit "Just Dance" that a lot of attention was given to her music. Gaga suffered from a tear to the labrum in her right leg, which she was secretly nursing for a few weeks in order to ensure she was able to continue the tour. After a show in Toronto was a disaster for her, she was unable walk without pain and suffering a lot and in a lot of pain, she was admitted to a hospital to undergo surgery. the tour was cut short.
